Mothering the Mother

The Greek word doula means caregiver.

A full-spectrum doula is a community care worker who offers support to people during the full spectrum of pregnancy ~

from preconception, to birth, to abortion, to miscarriage & loss, to adoption, to postpartum.

Full-spectrum birth work entails learning and unlearning, as I endeavour to operate from an anti-oppressive foundation.

Furthermore, I work to understand systemic barriers my clients may face in light of their identity, background, preferences, lived experiences, and so on.

I strive to nurture and support, educate and advocate, always communicating with clarity and sincerity, as I humble myself in the goal of upholding and honoring the parents wishes and hopes for their ideal birth.

Conception, Pregnancy, Birth & Beyond...

A doula provides REASSURANCE...

  • R - recognize birth as a life changing event

  • E - emotional support

  • A - assist parents with preparing and carrying out birth wishes

  • S - stays by laboring persons side

  • S - supports before, during, and after birth

  • U - understands birth and appropriate comfort measures

  • R - refers to local resources when needed

  • A - acceptance of parents desires

  • N - nurtures and protects the family's memory of birth

Definitely not just another day in the life...the arrival of a baby and the growth of their family is a life altering experience. Having a baby truly changes everything. Equip yourself and your family with understanding to empower your best possible birth experience. Knowledge is powerful.

Wherever you plan to bring your baby into the world, having a doula by your side can result in...
